Inertia Project
When I initially got my DH bike setup I found that the head tube angle wasn’t as steep as I was accustomed to. The bike was setup more for shore riding than railing the berms on A-Line so I started to look for options on what I could do.

Enter Interia Project. This Ashland, OR based company designs and builds after market crowns for 888 forks called the “Drop Crown Affair”. Aaron Bland the founder of the company happens to be a mechanical engineer during the day and avid rider at night. After being disappointed with other crown kits he decided to make his own version.
Designed around being lighter and stiffer than stock crowns they are made out of 6061 T6 Aluminum that has been CNC machined. They also feature: 6mm&5mm stainless steel hardware with extra deep threads, an externally butted steer tube, custom steer tube clamp design that has extra strength & stiffness and a integrated direct mount stem.

Setup was quite easy once I had decided on the headset that I wanted to use, (FSA Orbitz Extreme) I then cut down the steer tube to length, set the crown race and removed the old crowns from my trusty 888’s. I then installed the lower crowns onto the fork stanchions and slide the steer tube into place. Once they were set I installed the upper crowns and torque down the bolts. The only hiccup in the process was that the Orbitz headset had a little plastic insert under the top cap that wasn’t allowing me to snug up the headset. Once it was removed we were good to go. Total install time was under 1 hour.
